Amendments to the ‘Guidelines for the Registration of Venture Capital Corporations and Venture Capital Management Corporations’

The Securities Commission today amended the “Guidelines for the Registration of Venture Capital Corporations and Venture Capital Management Corporations” (VC Guidelines) to extend the applicability of the definition of “corporation” under the guidelines to include any entities established under the laws of Labuan.

The amendment would allow venture capital funds and venture capital management companies structured as limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships established under the Labuan Limited Partnerships and Limited Liability Partnerships Act 2010, to apply for registration under the VC Guidelines.

This flexibility is in line with the SC’s continuing efforts to facilitate the development of the venture capital industry to effectively meet the financing needs of emerging high-growth companies in value-added industries through the provision of risk capital, as stated in the Capital Market Masterplan 2.
