About MY ASEAN Internship

The MY ASEAN Internship programme is a new and exciting collaboration between the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and Talent Corporation Malaysia (TalentCorp). The internship programme is designed to address the need for building greater regional partnership, providing work opportunities and facilitating the movement of young talents across the region. It also promotes the ASEAN spirit across all levels of the community, including students.

As a supporting organisation, the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) will now provide opportunities for students from ASEAN member states who are currently enrolled in, or have just graduated from Malaysian universities to undertake an internship in the SC. The MY ASEAN Internship programme will commence in July 2015 and run for a minimum period of 10 weeks.

All international permit approvals related to the programme will be facilitated by TalentCorp.

The SC’s Internship Experience

The MY ASEAN Internship in the SC will expose the ASEAN interns to practical aspects in the development of the products, policies and regulations of the Malaysian capital market. ASEAN interns will  be able to understand the SC’s goals, principles and activities, and benchmark it with other capital market regulators regionally and globally. Interns will also be coached and mentored by senior staff of the SC. They will benefit not only through gaining new technical knowledge, but also through active involvement in projects that will develop their managerial capabilities.  As an organisation that takes pride in its performance-driven culture, interns will be provided with intellectual and stimulating tasks from their SC supervisors.

The ASEAN interns will be attached to a department relevant to their course of study, skills and experience. With assistance from the SC officers and under their supervisor’s guidance, ASEAN interns will be responsible for carrying out research and analysis, assisting in drafting policies and guidelines, and other operational duties.

At the end of the programme, the ASEAN interns will be required to undertake a performance review with their respective supervisors and managerial representatives, who will then provide them with a performance feedback.

However, life in the SC is not just all work and no play! The ASEAN interns will have the opportunity to enjoy free sports and gym facilities in the SC as well as participate in interdepartmental sports competitions, CSR initiatives and company gatherings. In addition, TalentCorp will organise several ASEAN-themed activities and competitions for interns who successfully commence and complete the MY ASEAN Internship programme.
