Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi is the Executive Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Malaysia and has over 30 years of experience in the audit and business advisory services of financial institutions in Malaysia. He has led a number of projects relating to strategy, investigations and merger work both locally and internationally. He has also acted as the Administrator for a national airline. He is also the Project Director, leading a team on the Accrual Accounting project together with the Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia. Dato’ Faiz is the President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and Chairman of the Islamic Finance Consultative Group of the International Accounting Standards Board. He currently sits on the Financial Reporting Foundation and is a member of the International Advisory Panel of Labuan International Business Financial Centre (Labuan IBFC). He is a Board Member of the Kuala Lumpur Business Club (KLBC) and Chairman of Malaysia Professional Accounting Centre (MyPAC). He is also the past Chairman of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB) and a Council Member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA).

Zainal Izlan Zainal Abidin

Zainal Izlan Zainal Abidin is Managing Director for Development and Islamic Markets at the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC). He joined the SC in 2011. He is also Chairman of Capital Markets Malaysia, an entity established by the SC to promote the Malaysian capital market. He has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry, primarily in the capital market segment. He began his career with Citibank Malaysia before joining MIDF Amanah Asset Management (MIDF Asset). During part of his tenure with MIDF Asset, he was seconded to Schroder Investment Management in London. He was CEO/Director of MIDF Asset and Head of the Asset Management Division of the MIDF Group until 2007 when he joined i-VCAP Management, an Islamic fund management firm, as its first CEO. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics degree (dual concentration in Accounting & Finance) from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. He presently sits on the Technical Committee of both the Islamic Financial Services Board and the Finance Accreditation Agency Malaysia. He is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants’ Islamic Finance Committee. He was previously President of CFA Malaysia, Vice Chairman of the Malaysian Association of Asset Managers (MAAM) and Chairman of MAAM Islamic Fund Management Sub-Committee.

Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Amanie Group that deals with many facets of global Islamic finance from Shariah advisory to structured training to media and to Big Data Analytics. The Group consists of Amanie Advisors (focusing on Islamic finance advisory and consulting), Amanie Academy (pivoting on human capital development), Amanie Media, Amanie Nexus (developing IT-driven products for Islamic finance), Amanie-SME-assist (leveraging on IT capabilities to coach and mentor the business development skills for SMEs), Economic Analytic Centre (focusing on balanced score card and big data analytics), and Amanie Holdings (providing strategic and investment supports for all related Amanie companies). Amanie Advisors has presence in nine major cities which include Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Casablanca, Luxembourg, Cairo, Astana, Muscat, Dublin and Tunis. He currently sits as a Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council at the Central Bank of Malaysia, the Securities Commission of Malaysia, the Labuan Financial Services Authority and the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM). He is also a Shariah board member of various financial institutions, including the National Bank of Oman (Oman), Noor Islamic Bank (Dubai), Amundi Asset Management (France), Morgan Stanley (Dubai), Bank of London and Middle East (London), BNP Paribas (Bahrain), Dow Jones Islamic Market Index (New York), First Gulf Bank (UAE), amongst many others. Prior to this, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the International Islamic University Malaysia. He received his first degree in Shariah from University of Kuwait in 1988 and obtained his PhD from University of St. Andrews, United Kingdom in 1993. In 2002, he completed his external Bachelor of Jurisprudence at University of Malaya. He has published a number of articles in various academic journals and has made many presentations in various conferences both local and overseas.

Sandeep Singh is the Country Head of Malaysia responsible for executing Franklin Templeton’s business strategy and overseeing the sales and marketing of all Franklin Templeton products (conventional & Shariah) in Malaysia. Sandeep joined Franklin Templeton Investments in 1998 as the regional sales manager of Franklin Templeton Asset Management (India) Private Limited in Kolkata, India. Prior to his current appointment, he was the senior vice president and national sales director based in Mumbai, responsible for managing both retail and institutional business spread across 33 offices in India. Sandeep worked as senior manager of Marketing with Cholamandalam Cazenove AMC in Chennai, India, prior to joining Franklin Templeton. With over 18 years of experience in the asset management industry, Sandeep has a proven track-record of working in a start-up environment. Sandeep graduated with a bachelor of engineering (mechanical) from the Punjab Engineering College in Chandigarh, India, and received his MBA from The University of Western Australia, Perth. He is also a Certified Financial Planner

Monem Salam is a Director at Saturna Capital and president of Saturna Sdn. Bhd., Saturna Capital’s wholly-owned Malaysian subsidiary. He received his degrees from the University of Texas: BA (Austin) and MBA (Dallas). He worked as the chief investment officer for ITG & Associates (Dallas) until 1999; then as a representative with Morgan Stanley (suburban Dallas) until joining Saturna Capital in June 2003. He served as the director of Islamic investing and deputy portfolio manager to the Amana Mutual Funds Trust until moving to Kuala Lumpur in 2012 to oversee Saturna Sdn. Bhd. Monem speaks at Islamic finance/investment conferences worldwide and he is co-author of ‘A Muslim’s Guide to Investing and Personal Finance’. Monem also authored the chapter on Islamic Investing in the new book “Contemporary Islamic Finance” and contributes articles to leading Islamic financial magazines. He spoke in Islamic Communities about Islamic Finance and investing.
