Malaysia to host inaugural ASEAN Infrastructure Financing Mechanism Conference
Leading regional policy-makers and global experts in infrastructure development will gather in Malaysia next week as the country hosts the inaugural ASEAN Infrastructure Financing Mechanism (AIFM) Conference at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 10 November 2008.
The conference, organised by the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia and the Securities Commission, Malaysia (SC) on behalf of the ASEAN Infrastructure Financing Mechanism Task Force, underscores the region’s commitment in generating innovative market-oriented solutions to promote higher levels of infrastructure development.
The conference will be opened by YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Malaysia. Meanwhile, YB Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Finance Minister II of Malaysia, will be making the closing address.
Other leading policy-makers participating in the conference include the Secretary-General of ASEAN His Excellency Dr Surin Pitsuwan, who will deliver a special luncheon address, and Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala, the Secretary-General of the Securities & Exchange Commission of Thailand, and Chairman of the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum.
This conference has attracted the participation of many global experts including Pushpanathan Sundram from the ASEAN Secretariat, Kamran M Khan and Timothy Irwin from the World Bank, Jaseem Ahmad from the Asian Development Bank, Dr Biswa N. Bhattacharyay from the ADB Institute, Hari Sankaran from Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services of India, R Ravimohan from Standard & Poor’s, Chew Seng Kok from Zaid Ibrahim & Co, and Mak Hoy Yit from BNP Paribas Capital.
The one-day conference will be attended by senior government delegates of the AIFM Task Force from the 10-member ASEAN countries and is also open to the public.
