PM launches SC ‘Malaysian ICM’ Bulletin – Malaysia promoted further as global Islamic finance hub

Prime Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi today launched ‘Malaysian ICM’, a quarterly bulletin on the Malaysian Islamic capital market.

The Securities Commission (SC) produces ‘Malaysian ICM’ as part of its contribution to national efforts towards promoting Malaysia as a global Islamic finance hub. The launch was also attended by Dato’ Zarinah Anwar, the SC Chairman.

The bulletin was launched at the SC exhibition booth in conjunction with the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2006), which is being held from
10 to 14 May 2006.

“The Islamic capital market in Malaysia has experienced tremendous growth in terms of products and services,” said Dato’ Zarinah.

“Malaysia offers domestic and international investors the opportunity to invest and subscribe in a wide range of innovative products that are Shariah compliant. Such products include Shariah-compliant stocks, Islamic bonds/sukuk, Islamic structured products and Islamic unit trust funds,” she said.

The SC aims, through the bulletin, to promote the Malaysian Islamic capital market by enhancing its international profile, as well as by creating greater awareness and understanding of Islamic capital market matters amongst domestic and international market participants.

Towards this end, the bulletin features latest news and information on a range of issues that include development and regulatory matters, Shariah principles and Islamic capital market statistics, as well as articles and reports by Islamic capital market experts.

The publication also showcases innovative Islamic capital market products and services, and sets out available opportunities in Malaysia.

The bulletin is publicly available at SC roadshows and exhibitions as well as online.
