SC hosts regulators and industry leaders at the inaugural GEMP Conference 2016

The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today hosted over 200 regulators and capital market industry leaders from 23 countries at the inaugural GEMP Conference 2016.

The conference kicked off the three-day Global Emerging Markets Programme (GEMP), themed ‘Risk and Vulnerability of Global Markets: Reinforcing Resilience in Emerging Markets’. The GEMP is a global platform for capital market regulators to exchange information and ideas to promote cross-border cooperation in developing, implementing and adhering to internationally recognised standards of regulation, market oversight and enforcement principles.

The GEMP builds upon the success of SC’s Emerging Markets Programme that was launched in 2001, and continues the latter’s tradition in offering emerging market regulators regulatory perspectives on issues affecting the global capital markets. Since its establishment, the Emerging Markets Programme had attracted over 500 regulators from close to 70 countries.

Dato’ Seri Ranjit Ajit Singh, SC Chairman delivered the opening remarks at the GEMP Conference which featured prominent speakers including Dr. Mark Mobius, Executive Chairman of Templeton Emerging Markets Group; Dr. Ulrich Zachau, Country Director, South East Asia, East Asia and Pacific Region of World Bank Group; Ian Johnston, Chief Executive of Dubai Financial Services Authority and Lito Camacho, Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Credit Suisse Asia Pacific.

The GEMP is organised by the Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC), the training and development arm of SC
