SIDC Saturday Seminar on insider trading

The Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC) of the Securities Commission is organising a Saturday seminar on Insider Trading: Rules and Regulations on 18 May 2002 at the Puteri Pan Pacific Hotel, Johor Bahru.

The seminar, which will be facilitated by Mr. Eric Kang, Executive Director at PFA Corporate Services Sdn Bhd, aims to provide a basic explanation on the elements of insider trading, types of offences, regulations, criminal sanctions and civil remedies.

The seminar will provide participants with a better understanding of insider legislations such as civil remedies, criminal sanctions and defences. It will also highlight topics on disclosure requirements such as corporate disclosure policy, immediate disclosure requirements, periodic disclosure and disclosure requirements by directors and substantial shareholders.

This seminar carries 10 CPE-points, which dealer’s representatives can accumulate for licence renewal this year. CPE refers to the SIDC’s Continuing Professional Education programme which was introduced in January 2001 to enhance professional competence of all licensed representatives and in the long run, create a culture of continuous education and improvement among them. The points collected from attending the CPE courses will be a pre-requisite for dealer’s representative licence renewals from July 2002 and eventually cover all other categories of licences.

The seminar, which is open to all members of the public, would also be useful to directors of public listed companies, as well as general investors.

The registration fee for the seminar is RM180. Interested parties may contact En. Noor Hadi Ali at tel: (03)-6204 8660, fax: (03)-62015811 or email: [email protected]. Walk-in registrants are also welcome. More information on the seminar is available on the SC website.
