SIDC seminar on financial planning in Kota Kinabalu

The Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC), the education and training arm of the Securities Commission, will organise a seminar on the financial planning profession entitled “Financial Planning and the Professionals” at the Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota Kinabalu on 7 August 2004.

The role of financial planners is becoming more sophisticated as investors are bombarded with investment choices. There is an increasing demand for qualified and skilled financial planners who can assist investors in making smart decisions.

Recognising this need and for the sake of investor protection, the SIDC has embarked on an education programme to promote the importance of this profession. The seminar will take a closer look at the roles and responsibilities of a financial planner, and the processes and disciplines required in managing a client’s financial planning needs.

Seminar participants will gain insights from case studies on how to jumpstart the financial planning process by providing value-added services to their current and prospective clients.

The seminar will be facilitated by Paul Chan, who is a Board Member of the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia and the Chairman of its Standards and Professional Review Committee.

The seminar is open to members of the public, university students and especially to new and potential financial planners. The course is SIDC CPE-accredited and carries 10 CPE points. Dealers’ representatives and investment advisers are also encouraged to attend.

Registration fee is RM200 per person. For more information or registration, contact SIDC Corporate Services at tel: 03- 6204 8667 or visit the SC website here.
