The SC hosts 11th Emerging Markets Programme
The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) will host the 11th Annual Emerging Markets Programme (EMP) from 30 October to 4 November 2010 in Kuala Lumpur. The annual EMP is a key capacity-building forum among IOSCO members. The programme is aimed at strengthening the skill sets of emerging market regulators and takes a knowledge sharing approach to regulation through dialogue and exchange of practices and ideas.
This year, regulators from developed and emerging markets around the world will focus their discussions and exchanges on the issues leading to the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and the different responses being adopted.
Themed “Aftermath: The Consequences of the Global Financial Crisis for Emerging Market Regulators”, this year’s programme brings senior experts from regulatory authorities from various jurisdictions to Kuala Lumpur to share their thoughts and perspectives on the root cause and consequences of the GFC with some 40 participants from emerging market countries. The participants will have the opportunity to debate and discuss a range of issues that include the regulatory reforms already underway in key markets, further changes that are required including ways to adapt regulatory content to suit local context; as well as to what extent policies by developed markets can be replicated in respective emerging markets.
The EMP is the SC’s flagship regulatory programme, organised by the Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC) on behalf of the SC.
The SC Chairman Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar will deliver the keynote address at the EMP. Other prominent local speakers include the SC’s Managing Director, Enforcement, Dato Dr Nik Ramlah Nik Mahmood, and Dato’ Johan Raslan, Executive Chairman, PriceWaterhouse Coopers. Senior international speakers include Greg Tanzer, Secretary General of International Organisation of Securities Commission (IOSCO), Paul M. Koster, Chief Executive of the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), UAE and Guillermo Larrain, former Chairman of Chilean Securities Commission and Chairman of Emerging Markets Committee in IOSCO.
