Continuing interest in capital raising

— SC issues Q2 08 scorecard

Kuala Lumpur, 18 July 2008

Interest in IPO applications continues to be maintained, with seven new applications received in the second quarter of 2008, bringing the total to fifteen since the start of the year. The Securities Commission (SC) approved five applications in the second quarter, comprising two each for the Main Board and MESDAQ Market, and one for the Second Board.

The second quarter also registered a significant increase in applications for transfer to the Main Board, with the SC receiving eight new applications as compared to one in the previous quarter. Half of these were for companies listed on the MESDAQ Market. The increase reflected an encouraging growth in the financial performance of these companies as the majority of them have only been listed for three years or less.

The SC maintained its strong performance standards with 99 percent of licensing applications and 100 percent corporate proposals processed within the time charters. A total of 2,640 applications were received for new licences and renewal of licences in the second quarter of 2008.

Capital market statistics released by the SC cover information on processing, approvals and rejections of submissions, including timing and reasons. In addition to these scorecard indicators, the quarterly statistics of submissions approved by the SC for the second quarter of 2008 were also reported.
