Malaysia and Hong Kong jointly launch online forum for takeovers regulators
7 November 2012   |   Kuala Lumpur
The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) Hong Kong yesterday jointly launched the Asia Pacific Take-overs Regulators Forum, which will incorporate the first e-platform in the region for take-overs regulators.

The forum is established following the inaugural Roundtable of Regional Take-overs Regulators, jointly organised by the SC and SFC in Kuala Lumpur in May 2012.

The e-platform is designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas, views and resources on take-overs and related matters among regional experts in take-overs regulation. The forum’s membership is open to take-overs regulators only.

It is envisaged that through the online forum, members will be able to-

  • promote and develop the transparent and fair conduct of take-overs activities in their own markets;
  • learn from the experience of others to assist in the development of regulation in their countries; and
  • protect the public in their countries against financial losses arising from malpractice in take-overs.

The SC is pleased to be part of this effort as it is imperative that regulators co-operate more in an increasingly globalised world and that investors have the same level of clarity and are treated in a consistently fair manner wherever they invest.
