SC AND INDUSTRY COLLABORATE FOR INVESTSMART FEST
9 September 2014   |   Kuala Lumpur
Second Finance Minister, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah today launched Securities Commission Malaysia’s (SC) InvestSmart Fest, a collaboration with the industry to educate investors and raise the level of financial and investment literacy among Malaysians.

Held from 9 to 14 September at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, information on products and services in the capital market, the companies that offer them and the entities involved in the overall market framework can now be obtained in an informal and comfortable setting.

SC Chairman Datuk Ranjit Ajit Singh said that SC’s investor outreach efforts are ultimately motivated by its aim to see greater financial inclusion in Malaysia and to encourage more investor participation. The accessibility of the public to the capital market is key in this regard, to ensure that the range of products and services offered cater for the entire spectrum of the investing public.

“InvestSmart Fest is the first retail investor event of its kind organised by SC, with 37 other key capital market industry players. The public can also learn more about the capital market by attending the briefing sessions held and participating in the activities,” he said.

The SC is capitalising on digital and social media to further extend the reach of our investment literacy efforts. Through InvestSmart’s Facebook, information is conveyed through postings and greater engagement with the public on investment-related enquiries. The Facebook page has recorded 36,000 ‘Likes’ since its launch in June this year.

InvestSmart is a comprehensive investment awareness and literacy campaign under the SC’s Investor Empowerment initiative, to enable more confident and informed retail participation in the capital market. It aims to provide the public, particularly the next generation of investors, with valuable investment information, presented in a simplified format through new technology and multimedia platforms, supplementing existing investor education channels.
