SC Appoints New Deputy Chief Executive

The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) wishes to announce that the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance has appointed Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin as the SC’s new Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) which takes effect from 1 April 2016.

Ahmad Fairuz replaces Dato Dr Nik Ramlah Mahmood who retires on 31 March 2016 having served the SC for 23 years, four of which as the DCE.

Ahmad Fairuz is currently the Executive Director of Enforcement of the SC, and a Deputy Public Prosecutor.

As the DCE, his portfolio will involve overseeing the SC’s Enforcement, Intermediary and Fund Supervision, Market & Corporate Supervision functions. Ahmad Fairuz, 46, is a qualified Barrister-At-Law (Lincolns Inn). He has over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors including more than 14 years as Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Chambers.

He obtained his Bachelor of Laws with Honours degree from University Of Wales College of Cardiff, United Kingdom in 1992. He also holds a Master of Criminal Justice from University Malaya as well as Master of Prosecutions from University of Wollongong, Australia. He is a Chevening Fellow having attended a fellowship at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom under the auspices of the U.K. Government. He was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 2008 as Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

Ahmad Fairuz subsequently moved to the Oil and Gas industry in November 2008, starting with Exxon Mobil and its subsidiaries in Malaysia. He last held the position of Legal Advisor at Petron subsidiaries in Malaysia before joining the SC in 2012.
