SC organises Investor Outreach program in Sabah
6 December 2013   |   Kota Kinabalu

Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today organised its “SC REACH” roadshow in collaboration with industry and government agencies. This 3-day investor education programme is being held from 6 to 8 December at Suria Sabah Mall, Kota Kinabalu.

The SC REACH investor education programme is part of SC’s ongoing efforts to promote more informed investor participation by increasing public awareness on the wide range of capital market products available and educating investors about their rights and responsibilities when investing in the capital market. The programme aims to reach out to 10,000 potential and current investors in Sabah, which has a growing investor base due to its young and diverse population.

A total of 24 exhibitors comprising capital market service providers, institutions, federal and state government entities will be taking part in this investor education initiative. The public can visit the exhibition booths set up by participating entities to learn more about the different types of investment products offered by the capital market, including unit trust funds and private retirement schemes (PRS).

Senior officers from SC, Bank Negara Malaysia, Bursa Malaysia and the Private Pension Administrator (PPA) will also give talks on investment related topics, including an introduction to PRS and Shariah-compliant capital market products. In addition, a Bijak Mengurus Wang (B.M.W) money management seminar will be organised by SIDC, the training arm of SC.

SC Chairman Datuk Ranjit Ajit Singh and Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh officiated the event which also saw the launch of SC’s first mobile application for investors. The application, which can be downloaded for free, aims to provide investors an innovative channel to gain investment knowledge and verify the legality of an investment product.

SC continues to engage with the public to build greater awareness on capital market products and on investors’ rights and responsibilities. These public engagements also allow the SC to gather feedback towards developing better tools and platforms to perform its role to grow and maintain a fair and efficient market.
