SIDC Launches Revised Edition of Modules 6 & 7

Kuala Lumpur, 4 December 2000

The Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC), the educational and training arm of the Securities Commission (SC), is pleased to release the revised edition of Modules 6 and 7 of its Licensing Examination Study Guide.

Rapid changes in the capital markets, particularly in the area of securities regulation, requires that the SIDC revise its study guides to keep up with current trends and to ensure the relevance of the subject material to industry needs. A committee comprising industry experts and regulators have reviewed the revised modules, which now provide more information and greater coverage on the subjects.

The revised edition of Module 6: Stock Market and Securities Law has been updated to reflect the latest changes in the regulatory framework and securities laws, up till June 2000. Candidates would still have to continuously update themselves on further changes thereafter.

While the overall subject coverage of Module 6 remains the same, some topics are combined and the module now comprises 12 topics as follows:

  1. Overview of the Malaysian Stock Markets
  2. Regulations of the Securities Industry
  3. Business Structures
  4. Capital Raising on the Primary Market
  5. Trading on the Secondary Market
  6. Clearing, Delivery, Settlement and Corporate Actions
  7. Law of Contract
  8. Relationship Between Stockbroking Company and Client
  9. Negligent Misstatement
  10. Licensing
  11. Securities Offences
  12. Take-overs

The revised edition of Module 7: Financial Statement Analysis and Asset Valuation provides greater detail and more comprehensive information than the earlier edition. There are also additional illustrations and examples to help candidates better understand the subject. The materials have been reorganised and are now presented in one section instead of two sections as in the original edition. The revised module comprises five core topics:

  1. Importance of Financial Statement Analysis
  2. Elements of Financial Statements
  3. Financial Statement Analysis
  4. Fixed Income and Money Markets
  5. Equity Markets

The revised Modules 6 and 7 are available at SIDC Corporate Services, Securities Commission at RM80 each. For more information, please contact SIDC Corporate Services at tel: 03-6204 8000.

Apart from the direct target group - examination candidates, dealer's representatives and remisiers - academicians, investors and others interested to know about the Malaysian securities market will also find these study guides extremely useful.
