The seminar will provide participants with a basic understanding of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange's (KLSE) rules and regulations, trading mechanisms and the clearing and settlement system. Participants will also learn about the different types of equities in the capital market and corporate actions undertaken for issuance of dividends, bonus and rights issue.
SIDC manager Puan Teh Ija Mohd Jalil said participants would also gain insights on future market trends and challenges faced by KLSE such as a shorter settlement period and the on-going demutualisation exercise. Ample time will be allocated for questions from participants.
"With better knowledge and awareness of risks and rewards, investors will have greater confidence to participate in the capital market," she said.
The Kota Bharu seminar will be facilitated by Mr. Clement Almaide, Vice President, Head of Dealing (Retail) of K&N Kenanga Berhad, a stockbroking firm in Kuala Lumpur. Prior to his appointment at K&N Kenanga, he held several positions on the KLSE, his last position being the Assistant Trading Manager of KLSE. Being an expert on trading operations, Mr. Almaide has conducted courses for Research Institute of Investments Analysts Malaysia (RIIAM) and the SC.
Investors, entrepreneurs, capital market professionals, dealer's representatives, academicians, and university students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.
Puan Teh Ija said the seminar also carries 10 CPE-points, which dealer's representatives can accumulate for licence renewal this year. CPE refers to the SIDC's Continuing Professional Education programme which was introduced in January 2001 to enhance professional competence of all licensed representatives and in the long run, create a culture of continuous education and improvement among them. The points collected from attending the CPE courses will be a pre-requisite for dealer's representative licence renewals from July 2002 and eventually cover all other categories of licences.
