Updated List of Shariah-compliant Securities by SC's Shariah Advisory Council (30 May 2022)

Kuala Lumpur, 30 May 2008

The Securities Commission (SC) today released an updated list of Shariah-compliant securities approved by its Shariah Advisory Council (SAC). The updated list of Shariah-compliant securities listed on Bursa Malaysia will take effect on 30 May 2008.

The updated list comprises a total of 843 securities which are classified by the SAC as Shariah-compliant securities. These constitute 85 per cent of the listed securities on Bursa Malaysia.

The list includes 23 newly classified Shariah-compliant securities (Table 1). It also excludes twelve securities, which were included in the previous list issued in November 2007 (Table 2).

The list also indicates that Shariah-compliant securities are well represented in all sectors of industry (Table 3).

In classifying the listed securities, the SAC has applied a standard criterion in focusing on the activities of the companies listed on Bursa Malaysia. The approach and criteria in classifying the securities as well as the SAC’s advice and guidance on disposal of Shariah non-compliant securities are stated in the list.

The full list, which is updated twice a year, is available here (pdf format). The next updated list will be available in November 2008.

The list will also be published in a booklet form and made available at the SC by end of June 2008.
