SC Launches aFINity@SC at World Capital Markets Symposium 2015
3 September 2015  |   Kuala Lumpur
Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today launched the “Alliance of FinTech Community” or “aFINity@SC”, an initiative to catalyse greater interest towards the development of Financial Technology (fintech).
The announcement was made at the World Capital Markets Symposium (WCMS) 2015, with the theme Markets and Technology: Driving Future Growth through Innovation.

The establishment of aFINity@SC seeks to drive a network of fintech stakeholders to accelerate growth and innovation in this industry. In its capacity as Chair of the Malaysian Venture Capital Development Council (MVCDC), the SC will coordinate with other authorities to pursue key deliverables which include, raising awareness, forming hubs to organise and nurture the fintech ecosystem; and providing policy and regulatory clarity to promote responsible financial innovation in this sector.

As a start, the SC will issue a call for participation to generate response and expressions of interest from relevant stakeholders, including innovators, entrepreneurs, established businesses, investors and other authorities to chart the fintech agenda together for Malaysia.

aFINity@SC will also assist firms in navigating the regulatory environment by facilitating discussions between businesses and relevant authorities to ensure that potential regulatory and risk concerns are appropriately taken into consideration.

The biennial WCMS, held in Kuala Lumpur from 3rd to 4th September, is organised by the SC, in partnership with Maybank, Amundi Asset Management and Nomura Asset Management.

The WCMS series is a platform to promote informed debate led by global opinion leaders, policy makers, influencers, business and market leaders.

WCMS 2015 features prominent speakers including Paddy Ashdown, Member of the House of Lords and President of Royal Institute of International Affairs; NR Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys; Dr Marc Faber, Executive Director of Marc Faber Limited. This year’s installment also includes a special session on ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) to discuss the opportunities and challenges to achieve AEC.

WCMS 2015 will close with a strong line-up of market specialists looking at the outlook for the European and Asian markets in 2016 and the impact of prevailing developments on Malaysia’s economic prospects going forward.
