SC’s Updated List of Approved Securities to be Released Twice a Year

Kuala Lumpur, 6 March 2000

The Syari’ah Advisory Council (SAC) of the Securities Commission (SC) has decided that beginning this year, the updated list of approved securities will be released to the public twice a year. As a general guide, the list will be released on the last Friday of the months of April and October. For this year, the updated list will be released on 28 April and 27 October.

Since June 1997, seven lists of approved securities have been issued by the SAC. The last updated list was issued on 22 September 1999 and remains effective until the next announcement in April this year.

The Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) uses the list in updating the component stocks of the KLSE Syari’ah Index (KLSI), which represents the performance of syari’ah approved securities on the stock exchange. The SC, through the SAC, will continue to update the list from time to time to determine the syari’ah status of all companies listed on the KLSE.
