The SSC delegation's visit to Malaysia was to enable them to gain a better understanding of the Malaysian capital market as well as the regulatory framework of the securities industry. The delegation also hoped to foster a closer relationship between Malaysia and Vietnam, particularly between the two regulatory bodies.
During the visit, the Vietnamese delegation also requested assistance from SC in a number of areas mainly in the area of training and manpower development, and hoped to draw on Malaysia's experience on a wide range of issues relating to capital market development.
SC's Director of Research and Development, Khairil Anuar Abdullah said that the Vietnamese capital market is in the initial stages of development, and that the Commission hopes to be able to share its experience with the SSC and other market participants in Vietnam.
"The Commission is delighted that Dr. Le Van Chau has chosen to visit Malaysia to obtain a brief, yet comprehensive overview of our capital market. The SC stands ready to assist Vietnam in its effort to set up its stock market and its capital market regulatory framework, in the spirit ASEAN accord."
"We hope that the cooperation between the two regulatory bodies will not only assist the growth and development of the capital market in Vietnam, but also contribute toward the realisation of a higher level of investment between our two countries", he added.
During their visit, the SSC delegation also visited market institutions, intermediaries, regulators including the KLSE, as well as government agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister's Department, Bank Negara, and Permodalan Nasional Berhad.
The SSC delegation also met with the Association of Merchant Bankers, the Malaysian Association of Asset Managers and the Federation of Malaysian Unit Trusts Managers.
