SIDC Launches New Study Guide on Compliance, Prelude to New Exam

Kuala Lumpur, 23 May 2002

The Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC) has issued a new study guide on compliance, in conjunction with the new additional examination module for Compliance Officers called Module 11: Fundamentals of Compliance to further strengthen the compliance function in the Malaysian capital market.

SIDC Manager Puan Teh Ija Mohd Jalil said the new study guide would be useful for candidates sitting for the new Module 11 examination. The first examination for Module 11 will be held on 4 September 2002. Details will be made available to the public by end-June 2002.

The Module 11 study guide was launched earlier this week during the SIDC Familiarisation Programme on Compliance held at the Securities Commission (SC). The aim of the Familiarisation Programme was to ensure that participants are kept abreast with the compliance function and its overall contribution to the Malaysian capital market.

Anyone wishing to become Compliance Officers after 4 September 2002 must pass all of the prescribed industry examinations, including Module 11, before their applications can be considered by the SC.

Those persons already registered and/or approved as compliance officers were given the exemption from taking the new Module 11 examination if they had attended the recent Familiarisation Programme.

Registered/approved Compliance Officers who did not attend the Familiarisation Programme or new applications submitted to the SC before 4 September 2002 (if approved) will be given six-months from 4 September 2002 to pass the Module 11 examination. Those who do not pass the examination within the stipulated period would face the possibility of their Compliance Officer status retracted by the SC or be deregistered by the relevant Exchanges.

The Module 11 study guide is available from today at SIDC'S Corporate Services at RM90 each.
