SIDC to Organise Seminar on Compliance and Best Sales Practices

The Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC) of the Securities Commission (SC) will be organising a Seminar on Compliance and Best Sales Practices on 5 May 1997 at the Grand Ballroom, Legend Hotel and Apartments, Kuala Lumpur.

The primary objective of the seminar is to create awareness on the importance of prudential standards and adequate compliance within member firms, particularly in a full-disclosure environment. Towards that end, the one-day seminar will encompass issues on:-

  • supervision, compliance and internal controls;
  • corporate governance and risk management;
  • best sales practices and customer suitability;
  • role and functions of self-regulatory organisations in member compliance;
  • role and functions of compliance officers.

The seminar is targeted at stockbrokers, futures brokers, fund managers, exchanges, clearing houses and regulators.

Speakers at the seminar will be from renowned, international organisations such as:

  • Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific, Hong Kong and Singapore;
  • National Futures Association, Chicago
  • Swiss Bank Corporation, Zurich
  • The Securities and Futures Authority, London

The seminar is expected to be an effective platform for the SC to clarify and highlight, for the benefit of members of the industry and the general public, pertinent issues on compliance and best sales practices. It will also facilitate implementation of the SC's role to promote and encourage proper conduct among members of the industry and also to supress illegal, dishonourable and improper practices.
