SIDC's Internet-based stock market simulation game a fun way for investors to learn about making informed investment decisions

Kuala Lumpur, 1 July 1999

The Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC), the education and training arm of the Securities Commission (SC), today launched an Internet-based stock market simulation game called the Wise Investor. The trading game was developed by the SIDC for the educational benefit of the investing public.

The development of the Wise Investor was spurred by the aim of the SC to educate investors to make informed investment decisions. In this respect, the intention is to make investors understand the need to weigh risks and returns before making investment decisions.

For investors, this will be a fun way for them to learn about the importance of information gathering, what kind of information to gather and how to assess the information before they decide on an investment.

The game is targeted at investors of various levels - new and seasoned investors - who are keen to find out more or enhance their knowledge about making wise investment choices.

Beginners can go through six brief tutorial information topics that will help them:

  • identify typical market trends;
  • predict upcoming trends; and
  • determine a market strategy based on the news of the day and the current trend.

Investors who have familiarised themselves with the fundamentals can hone their investing skills by progressing to the three trading simulation games of the Wise Investor. The three games, of varying difficulties, starts off with trading in shares and goes on to trading in bonds and futures.

The Wise Investor can be accessed by investors free of charge. The game is user-friendly and investors can connect to it at http://www.sc.com.my/wise_investor.html.

For further enquiries on the game, please contact the SIDC at telephone number: 03-6548000 or facsimile number: 03-6515811.
