Capital Market Master Plan approved by Minister of Finance

Kuala Lumpur, 29 December 2000

The Securities Commission (SC) today announced that the Minister of Finance has approved the Capital Market Master Plan (CMP).

The CMP is a comprehensive plan that identifies the strategic positioning and future direction of the Malaysian capital market.

A Capital Market Strategic Committee (CMSC) was established in 1999, headed by the SC Chairman, to facilitate the formulation of the CMP. The CMP has gone through an extensive consultation process and is essentially a result of the collaboration between the SC and members of the capital market industry.

"I am extremely grateful to members of the CMSC, industry participants and all other parties for their invaluable contribution towards the formulation of the CMP.

"Their input and insights have certainly played a crucial role in the formulation of the CMP. We are making the necessary preparations and look forward to presenting the Plan to public early next year," said the SC Chairman, Encik Ali Abdul Kadir.

The SC will be unveiling the details of the CMP to the industry in the early part of next year.
