First trading day of Year 2000 runs smoothly

Kuala Lumpur, 3 January 2000

The Securities Commission (SC) wishes to announce that the equities and futures markets completed the first trading day of Year 2000 (Y2K) without any computer systems disruptions.

The capital market institutions have reported to the SC that their mission critical systems functioned normally during the first trading day. There were no reports of Y2K-related disruptions among the capital market intermediaries as at 5.00 p.m. today. However, the SC will continue to monitor the situation closely through its Y2K Command Centre (YCC).

The SC wishes to laud the concerted efforts of the capital market institutions and intermediaries who have diligently taken all necessary precautions and remedial steps to ensure a smooth transition to the Year 2000.
