SC: Market re-opens tomorrow, orderly trading expected

Kuala Lumpur, 12 September 2001

Trading at the Malaysian securities and futures exchanges will resume tomorrow. In this regard, the Securities Commission (SC) would like to assure investors that market integrity is intact and the settlement systems will operate as normal.

The SC urges investors to remain calm and evaluate latest market information in making their investment decisions.

The securities and futures exchanges were closed for trading today, 12 September 2001. The closure was a temporary and precautionary measure against any undesirable chain reactions which could have arisen from the tragic events in the United States. The SC believes that the measure has provided investors sufficient time to assess the situation.

The SC and the exchanges are monitoring the situation closely and will keep the public advised.
