SIDC organises seminar to promote greater awareness and understanding of Islamic capital market

Kuala Lumpur, 30 June 1999

The Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC) of the Securities Commission (SC) will be organising a Seminar on Introduction to Islamic Capital Market on 8 July 1999 at the SC Building to promote awareness and understanding of the Islamic capital market.

In cognisance of the fact that a wide section of the Muslim community in Malaysia has yet to be exposed to the Islamic capital market, this introductory-level seminar aims to provide knowledge that will encourage more Muslims to participate in and benefit from the Islamic capital market, in adherence to Syariah principles. On the whole, this seminar is expected to contribute to the objective of the SC to develop the Islamic capital market in Malaysia.

In line with this, the seminar will, among others, provide participants with insight on:

  • how securities are classified according to syariah principles,
  • the range of Islamic financial products that are available; and
  • Islamic fund management.

Seminar speakers, which comprise experienced SC officers, members of the SC's Syariah Advisory Council (SAC) and industry practitioners, include:

  • Y. Bhg. Dato' Dr. Abdul Halim Ismail, Member of SC Syariah Advisory Council;
  • Dr. Ghazali Atan, Komplek Metrowangsa Sdn Bhd;
  • En. Zahid Abdul Aziz, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad; and
  • Ustaz Nurdin Ngadimon, Islamic Capital Market Unit, SC

While the seminar is open to all members of the public who are keen to gain insight on the Islamic capital market, it is specifically targeted at investment, banking and legal officers, researchers, Syariah advisors, academicians and students.
