Updated List of Shariah-compliant Securities by SC’s Shariah Advisory Council
28 May 2009   |   Kuala Lumpur
The Securities Commission (SC) today released an updated list of Shariah-compliant securities approved by its Shariah Advisory Council (SAC). The updated list of Shariah-compliant securities listed on Bursa Malaysia will take effect on 29 May 2009.

The updated list features a total of 848 securities which are classified by the SAC as Shariah-compliant securities. These counters constitute 88 per cent of the listed securities on Bursa Malaysia.

The list includes 13 newly classified Shariah-compliant securities (Table 1) and excludes one which was in the previous list issued in November 2008 (Table 2).

The list also indicates that Shariah-compliant securities are well represented in all sectors of industry (Table 3).

The approach and criteria in classifying the securities as well as the SAC’s advice and guidance on disposal of Shariah non-compliant securities are stated in the list.

The full list, which is updated twice a year, is available here. The next updated list will be available in November 2009.

The list will also be published in a booklet form and will be made available free of charge at the SC from 16 June 2009.
