Datuk Syed Zaid Syed Jaffar Albar served as Executive Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) from 1 November 2018 until June 2022. A UK-trained lawyer and Barrister-at-Law (Lincoln’s Inn), he brought over three decades of corporate and capital markets legal expertise to the SC.
During his leadership, he spearheaded the launch of the Capital Market Masterplan 3 (CMP3), charting the five-year strategic trajectory for Malaysia’s capital market. He prioritised digital market innovation, corporate governance and sustainable and responsible investment (SRI). Regionally, he represented the SC in the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum and served as Vice Chair of the IOSCO Asia-Pacific Hub Management Committee.
