Malaysia Part Of CSRC's Study Tour

Kuala Lumpur, 28 November 1995

The Securities Commission (SC) hosted a three-day visit by the Chairman of Securities Regulatory Commission of the People's Republic of China (CSRC), Zhou Daojiong, and his five member delegation.

The visit, the first for the CSRC, was at the invitation of SC's Chairman, Datuk Dr Mohd Munir Abdul Majid. The visit is part of a three nation study tour which includes Singapore and Hong Kong.

The objective of the study tour is to broaden CSRC's understanding of the regulatory structure of, and issues faced by, other emerging markets, particularly Asian markets which are experiencing rapid growth. In terms of market capitalisation, Malaysia is ranked third after Japan and Hong Kong.

Mr Zhou and his delegation spent two hours at the SC where they were briefed on the role and function of the SC followed by informal discussions thereafter.

Other than the SC, the delegation visited the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, a merchant bank and an asset management company.
