SC hosts 31st MOF Games

The 31st Ministry of Finance Games fostering closer ties among agencies under the Ministry of Finance (MOF) came to a close on Sunday 21 August 2005. The Securities Commission (SC) for the first time hosted this 16-day event that began on 6 August 2005.

The Minister of Finance II Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said in officiating the opening ceremony, "Sporting events such as this promotes cooperation and goodwill among the staff members of the agencies under the Ministry of Finance". He also said such events contributed towards the promotion of teamwork and unity as well.

During the closing ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Finance II Tengku Dato' Putera Tengku Awang added, "The participation of agencies in the Games prove the dynamism of their staff members, demonstrating excellence at work and in sports".

Aside from the SC, the seven other MOF agencies participating in the Games are Treasury, Inland Revenue Board (IRB), Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), Department of Property Valuation and Services (Jabatan Penilaian dan Perkhidmatan Harta - JPPH), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Royal Malaysian Customs (Kastam DiRaja Malaysia - KDRM).

The SC Chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof thanked all MOF agencies for their support and cooperation in making the Games a success.

Close to 1200 athletes participated in 11 games-golf, badminton, darts, table tennis, Scrabble, men's and women's volleyball, bowling, football, outdoor challenge and athletics.

BSN was the overall champion while EPF and KDRM secured second and third placing respectively. The placing of the other agency teams in descending order is IRB, BNM, SC, Treasury and JPPH.

In a display of teamwork and harmony, each of the agencies conducted a march past and paraded floats in line with the theme of the Games, Pancawarna Kewangan. Under the theme, the agencies were assigned with colours as well as a range of values espoused by the MOF. The SC's colour was brown for integrity, Treasury grey/knowledge, IRB yellow/harmony, BSN red/unity, JPPH green/accountability, BNM purple/excellence, EPF black/friendship, and KDRM white/productivity. The agencies projected their assigned colours and values into the float design and presentation.

BNM won the top prize for Best Float and March Past while EPF and SC came in second and third respectively.

Treasury will host the next Ministry of Finance Games in 2006.
