SC and CyberSecurity Malaysia Join Forces to Combat Securities Offences

Kuala Lumpur, 28 May 2007

The Securities Commission (SC) and CyberSecurity Malaysia are collaborating in the area of cyber forensics investigations and data recovery in securities offences investigation. This commitment, which was firmed up with the recent signing of an agreement between the two parties, is a key step to further enhance the SC’s enforcement efforts.

“CyberSecurity Malaysia has the technical expertise needed to help in our investigations, especially since the perpetrators have become more technology savvy with a growing number of them using the Internet as a platform for their illegal activities,” said Dr Nik Ramlah Nik Mahmood, SC Senior Executive Director of Strategy and Development, and Acting Head of Enforcement, who signed the agreement on behalf of the SC.

"Our team in CyberSecurity Malaysia will work closely with the SC focusing on the information technology component of investigations. We hope our cooperation will enable the SC to make key enforcement decisions based upon facts and digital evidence," said Lt Col (R) Husin Jazri, Acting Chief Executive Officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia who represented the company.

CyberSecurity Malaysia, formerly known as the National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre (NISER), is a national agency that monitors the security aspects of the country’s cyberspace. Its establishment is under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
