19 June 2014   |   Kuala Lumpur
The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today launched InvestSmartTM, a comprehensive investment literacy outreach campaign under the SC’s Investor Empowerment initiative, to enable more confident and informed retail participation in the capital market.

InvestSmartTM aims to provide the public, particularly the next generation of investors, with valuable investment information, presented in a simplified format through new technology and multimedia platforms, which will supplement existing investor education channels.

“Education and awareness are key elements of investor protection. It is important for investors to be empowered with the right knowledge to become informed and confident participants in the capital market,” said Datuk Ranjit Ajit Singh, Chairman of the SC.

“We also want to start a conversation about the capital market with young adults. This is why we are raising our investor empowerment efforts to a whole new level. By leveraging on digital and social media,InvestSmartTM will provide reliable and independent information and investment tools to the public,” said Ranjit in his welcoming remarks at the launch of the campaign. The launch also saw the introduction of theInvestSmartTM website, Facebook page, starter kit and mobile application.

Through InvestSmartTM, the SC will also collaborate with various stakeholders, including other agencies, industry representatives and investors, to roll out a series of online and on-the- ground programmes to build responsible, informed and confident retail investors.

Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Youth and Sports, after launching the InvestSmartTM programme at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus, said, “It is important for the younger generation to have a head start in investing for greater financial security. Therefore, I’m very pleased that SC is highlighting the need for our future generation to be more investment savvy.”

“We all understand that the youth segment is more comfortable with bite-sized information available on-the-go. The SC’s strategic approach of using digital and social media to reach out to young potential investors is an exciting development and a step in the right direction,” he added.

The InvestSmartTM campaign will run throughout Malaysia starting with an investor weekend in Q4 of the year. For more information, please visit www.InvestSmartSC.my.
