Updated List of Shariah-compliant Securities by SC's Shariah Advisory Council (27 November 2022)

Kuala Lumpur, 27 November 2008

The Securities Commission (SC) today released an updated list of Shariah-compliant securities approved by its Shariah Advisory Council (SAC). The updated list of Shariah-compliant securities listed on Bursa Malaysia will take effect on 28 November 2008.

The updated list comprises a total of 855 securities which are classified by the SAC as Shariah-compliant securities. These constitute 87% of the listed securities on Bursa Malaysia.

The list adds 25 newly classified Shariah-compliant securities (Table 1) and excludes two securities from the previous list issued in May 2008 (Table 2). The list also indicates that Shariah-compliant securities are well represented in all sectors of industry (Table 3).

In classifying the listed securities, the SAC has applied a set of standard criteria in focusing on the activities of the companies listed on Bursa Malaysia. The approach and criteria in classifying the securities as well as the SAC’s advice and guidance on disposal of Shariah non-compliant securities are stated in the list.

The full list, which is updated twice a year, is available on the SC website at here. The next updated list will be available in May 2009.

The list will also be published in a booklet form and distributed free by the SC in December 2008.
